The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Cockroaches. (SPCC)

SPCC, activists laid down outside a major public restroom (WC) last week to protest the continued inhumane abuse and treatment of cockroaches. After months of unauthorized hidden camera studies documenting the interaction between the public and cockroaches no fewer than thirty five incidences of cruelty and senseless and unnecessary killing of these poor creatures was observed.

When those who were captured on video were shown the evidence of their heinous actions, one such person stated he hated those awful creatures and that is why he squished it under his shoe.  Indiscriminate killing for no real purpose. This is why we continue to protest and fight and will not stop until every cockroach is safe.

We have recently begum a campaign to educate the public called, "Cockroaches are Creatures Too" and hope to bring about greater public awareness and respect for these misunderstood creatures.

If you absolutely have to kill a cockroach, says the SPCC chairman, Buggsy M. Alone, SPCC guidelines for killing any cockroach require that you place tiny electrodes on the outer skeletal region just behind the antenna an stun the cockroach, before subjecting them to the traditional squish method. Can you imagine the horror of seeing a giant shoe coming down on you. These abuses must stop. When asked how the cockroaches must feel having electrodes attached to their little bodies and then zapped, Buggsy had no further comments. The debate continues - to squish or not to squish.

Twenty-five protesters were arrested, arraigned and then released the next day. "We vow to continue our fight" said one woman who pleaded not guilty and will appear next month in court. When asked why she choose to fight for cockroach rights as opposed to more traditional animal rights, She yelled, "Cockroaches are Creatures Too".

Some estimates indicate that over 20 billion cockroaches are killed each year, primarily in bathroom related encounters. That is an average of about two and a half cockroaches killed by every human on the planet. It must stop. SPCC is trying to establish cockroach sanctuaries around the world where cockroaches can live without fear.
