Medicinal vs. Organic Onions

We encourage everyone to do a search for yellow organic onions on the Internet and what you will find are the words mild, super sweet, and flavorful associated with just about every product sold. Growers want onions that people want to eat and most people want mild, sweet tasting onions. Medicinal onions are not grown for eating but for treatment. We have searched long and hard to find medicinal varieties. We initially thought it would be fairly easy to find really pungent varieties, but that has proven to be wrong assumption. In our continued quest to find the very best we will eventual start growing and developing our own varieties. Most of the untouched, unmodified verities are found in non-western countries.

"Now that scientists understand the pathway for the production of propanethial S-oxide, research is being focused on the production of genetically modified onions that do not contain the lachrymatory-factor synthase enzyme and hence will lead to tear-free cutting."

see: The lachrymatory factor in onions

The above statement illustrates just how focused industry scientists are on consumer needs rather than on improving the medicinal quality of onions. In fact, their many efforts are destroying the benefits of many "natural" foods that we eat that contain all sorts of healing properties. Just one more reason why diseases like cancer are rampant.

To our knowledge we are the first to make efforts in developing wholly medicinal varieties that follow not only strict organic standards but regional growing principles.
